Val Springett - Bearsted

Val Springett is one of our Borough Cllrs for Bearsted Ward.

Val has been a Borough Councillor representing Bearsted Ward for almost 4 years now, and hopes that you consider she has served you well during this time. Val says that she has found it an interesting experience , challenging at times but also very rewarding when she has been able to assist individual residents with issues that they may have with Borough Council matters.

Val feels that the smallest difference , like getting elderly residents on the bin "Pull-Out" service are often the most rewarding and can make a big difference to the lives of individuals. The most common issues that Val is contacted about seem to be related to planning applications and she has always tried her very best to assist with advice and support where this is possible.

Val told us, "By far the most challenging issue for me has been the ermerging Local Plan. Like it, or hate it, it is a process that Maidstone Borough Council has to go through and I have found it a difficult path to tread at times. The main reason I am standing for election again in May, and the reason why I am asking for your vote, is that I want to see this Local Plan through to completion. It is a long and complex process, with which I consider I have now 'Got to grips', and I would not want a new Councillor to try to take up the process at this stage.

Although not in Bearsted Ward, the junction 8 issue will rear its ugly head again, and there will be challenges ahead to find the best way forward to try to try to protect this area of our Borough. I have fought long and hard on this issue and will continue to do so. School places for Bearsted children is another common issue, and although this is a County matter not a Borough one, I will continue to work with County Councillors and our MP to try to address this problem."

Val says, "I do not get involved in political point scroring, as some parties do, and will work with Councillors from other political groups where necessary for the good of the Borough as a whole.
